The rvs® managed file transfer components rvs® SNMP Agent, rvs® Central Administration and rvs® Central Journal help you cope with increasingly demanding requirements as regards making data transfer processes in complex information networks documentable, verifiable and billable.
rvs® is based on the Odette File Transfer Protocol (OFTP) and uses popular communication protocols (TCP/IP, ISDN, X.25).
File transfer monitoring with the rvs® SNMP Agent
Network management systems (NMS) are used in complex file transfer networks in order to query and evaluate the status of the individual network elements (devices and applications). In many cases, the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used for communication between the network element and the administrative instance.
Thanks to SNMP monitoring, rvs® guarantees reliable monitoring of the operating statuses of individual stations: both within your company on all levels of A2A communication and in B2B communication with external partners and customers.
The rvs® SNMP Agent fits easily into existing distributed management systems. Monitoring takes place in a standardized manner regardless of the platform or versions for all rvs® products.
The rvs® SNMP Agent allows malfunctions to be identified quickly as well as monitoring
- without specific rvs® know-how,
- using an existing network infrastructure,
- with minimal knowledge on the part of monitoring staff,
- with low installation outlay and
- with low costs.
The rvs® SNMP Agent provides information as to whether all file transfer instances have been launched and are working smoothly. It generates warning messages if errors occur and enables you to intervene and rectify errors.
With the help of TRAPS (unsolicited messages from the administered system to the central management instance), standard information is automatically passed on to the headquarters.
Each installation of an rvs® SNMP Agent includes an rvs® MIB (Management Information Base). This can be shown and managed in an MIB browser. Using the GET command, you can request specific file transfer parameters. The settings for the rvs® SNMP Agent can be configured or changed with the SET command.
File transfer management with rvs® Central Administration
With the Central Administration managed file transfer component, rvs® allows you to manage large file transfer networks, e.g. with star topologies.
Thanks to this function, routine procedures for a number of client stations can be carried out from a headquarters with no knowledge of the administered stations necessary.
Recurrent tasks such as distributing the latest software and aligning the software versions used by clients, changing global configuration data, distributing license data or analyzing problems occurring at client stations can be handled centrally by an administrator with little manual outlay.
Central Administration with rvs® works according to the principle of exchanging container configuration files between the headquarters and remote stations and requires little more than an existing OFTP connection.
Recording and evaluating file transfer flows with rvs® Central Journal
rvs® Central Journal allows you to log all data regarding data sent and received in a central database. The consolidated view of logging data as well as accounting and reporting make it easier to keep track and monitor complex transfer networks.
rvs® Central Journal receives transfer-relevant journal data from the distributed rvs® stations within the network.
The data are transferred to a journal database with the help of a data converter and are made available there for retrieval and further processing.
Via a graphical user interface, selected data can be retrieved, evaluated and exported as a text file for further processing.
The following parameters are recorded in Central Journal and can be used as selection criteria in the user interface:
- Sender OdetteID
- Recipient OdetteID
- Neighbor OdetteID
- Local OdetteID
- Transfer direction
- Transfer status
- Virtual file name
- Sent from-until (Odette time stamp)
- Start of transfer
- End of transfer
- Bytes transferred
rvs® Central Journal is implemented in Java and is therefore independent of the operating system used.
